History

Mergent’s history traces back more than 100 years, when our predecessor began collecting and delivering the financial information needed by a growing Wall Street-based investment community. Today, our unique history and experience is coupled with the latest technology in data collection, analysis and dissemination, keeping Mergent at the forefront of the financial information industry.

  • 1900 - Moody's Manual of Industrial & Corporation Securities
  • 1909 - Moody's Ratings introduced
  • 1918 - Government Manual  - Foreign & American Government Securities
  • 1920 - Moody's Industrial & Public Utility Manual split into two volumes
  • 1928 - Moody's becomes a public company
  • 1932 - Moody's starts to publish information on corporate dividends
  • 1952 - Moody's Railroad Manual expanded to include all forms of transportation
  • 1955 - Moody's Bank and Finance Manual was first published
  • 1962 - Moody's becomes a wholly-owned subsidiary of Dun & Bradstreet
  • 1970 - Moody's is first to institute fees for studying and rating companies' securities
  • 1975 - Moody's introduces Corporate Visibility
  • 1977 - Moody's first Handbook of Dividend Achievers published
  • 1981 - Moody's International Manual published
  • 1991 - Moody's launched CD-ROM product: Moody's Company Data
  • 1992 - Data collections and production groups relocated from NYC to Charlotte, NC
  • 1997 - Moody's launches FISonline, on online Internet product
  • 1998 - Moody's Financial Information Services sold to Mergent, Inc.
  • 2003 - Mergent Online is released to replace FISonline
  • 2003 - Mergent creates the Dividend Achievers Index Family
  • 2003 - Mergent acquired the assets of LIS Global Information Services Inc. and launched Mergent's corporate bond feed products
  • 2004 - Mergent EventsData is released offering equity and fixed income events
  • 2004 - Partnership with John Wiley in distributing handbooks
  • 2004 - Mergent released its Municipal terms & conditions datafeed product.
  • 2005 - Mergent acquired HSD business from Capco
  • 2005 - Mergent acquired Ford Equity Research
  • 2008 - Mergent acquired Intrinsic Research Systems Inc.
  • 2012 - Mergent, Inc. forms partnership with Dun & Bradstreet
  • 2013 - Mergent acquired Columbine Capital
  • 2013 - Mergent launches Mergent Business Press (www.mergentbusinesspress.com)
