IndustryWeek 2006 Global Manufacturer Rankings Based on Mergent Data
New York, NY, June 26, 2006 – Mergent, Inc., a leading provider of business and financial information on publicly listed companies, announces that IndustryWeek magazine has selected Mergent as its key information provider in compiling the IW 1000, its annual ranking of the world’s 1,000 largest publicly traded manufacturing companies, for the fourth consecutive year.
Now in its eleventh year, the IW 1000 is the most comprehensive global ranking of listed companies that derive at least 50% of their revenues from manufacturing. Together, these manufacturers recorded approximately $12.6 trillion in total revenues in 2005, up 3.12% from the previous year. Out of the 47 countries covered in the survey, the U.S., Japan, U.K., France and Germany recorded the highest number of companies; 68 new companies were added to the list and Exxon Mobil was ranked first overall.
Mergent’s global databases cover more than 35,000 companies in 100 countries across the world. This data is used to assist IndustryWeek in its research effort, identifying all publicly-held manufacturing firms that meet the publication’s stringent selection criteria.
“Once again Mergent’s resources and capabilities have been invaluable in identifying the vast amount of financial data required to construct the IW 1000," said Traci Purdum, IndustryWeek Senior Editor and Director of the IW 1000. “Ranking companies on a global basis presents many complications, not least of which are those presented by differing accounting standards, currencies and regulatory regimes. Our partnership with Mergent has enabled us to provide our readers with an exceptional stable of information on the top 1,000 manufacturing companies in the world.”
“We are delighted that IndustryWeek has chosen to work with us for a fourth consecutive year,” said Jonathan Worrall, CEO of Mergent. “We pride ourselves on providing our customers with the very best research solutions. Mergent’s work with IndustryWeek showcases both the expertise of our in-house research analysts and the scope of our global financial databases, which are unmatched in the breadth and quality of information they provide.”
Abridged IW 1000 rankings will be featured in the July issue of IndustryWeek. More comprehensive information on the IW 1000 can be found online at www.industryweek.com.
